Delhi On High Alert, Government Employees' Leave Cancelled Amid India-Pak Tensions
As part of Operation Sindoor, strollers at India Gate, the iconic war memorial, were asked to vacate, and traffic in the area was regulated. Police made announcements urging people to leave the vicinity.
Heightened Security Measures
- Increased Vigilance: According to officials, vigilance has been ramped up at malls, markets, metro stations, hotels, residential colonies, airports, and other crowded places.
- Police Deployment: A police officer stated, "Police will stay alert and will keep active. Night vigil has been intensified. We will deploy extra force in every sensitive area."
- Vehicle Checks: Police checks, especially at Delhi's borders, have been intensified, with all vehicles entering the city undergoing thorough inspections.
Administrative Actions
- Leave Cancellation: In a late evening order, the Delhi government's services department banned its employees from taking leave until further notice.
- Preparedness Reviews: District magistrates held meetings to assess health and disaster management preparedness. An official from New Delhi district confirmed a review meeting was conducted to evaluate the health department and disaster management systems. In East Delhi, officials are analyzing quick response mechanisms and identifying gaps.
Security Beef-Up
Security has been heightened across the national capital with additional forces, including paramilitary personnel, deployed at key installations. Special commissioners of all zones are holding meetings with deputy commissioners across Delhi's 15 districts.
Police sources reported that the Pakistani military attempted to target multiple locations, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. These attempts were foiled, and a Pakistani air defence system was destroyed in Lahore.
"All DCPs are actively monitoring law and order in their areas. They have briefed their officers, including ACPs and SHOs. DCPs are personally monitoring their areas, and Delhi Police is ready to deal with any situation," a police source said.
Anti-Terror Measures
- Metro Station Security: Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania stated, "As part of ongoing anti-terror measures, the police conducted a thorough security inspection at the Mayur Vihar Phase-1 Metro Station. CISF personnel were briefed, and a coordination meeting was held." The station is equipped with 41 operational CCTV cameras and staffed by 7 male and 2 female CISF personnel per shift to ensure round-the-clock security.
- Anti-Sabotage Checks: Bomb Disposal Squads conducted anti-sabotage checks at malls, markets, hotels, and other vital locations. DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary noted, "The district's BDS team conducted anti-sabotage checks to ensure public safety. The exercise strengthened vigilance and preparedness against potential threats."
