Discovery of the Body
In the early hours of 12 March 2026, hotel staff at a lodge on Church Mission Road in the Lahori Gate area of Old Delhi grew concerned about Room No. 205. The room had been locked for several hours and its occupant was not responding to repeated knocks. Staff alerted the police.
When officers arrived and forced open the door, they found a 25-year-old woman lying motionless on the bed, partially covered with a blanket. Bloodstains were visible on the bedding and clothing in the room. The scene immediately indicated foul play, and a homicide investigation was launched.
Timeline of Events
The woman had been pressuring him to marry her. He did not want to marry, and due to the pressure, he planned the killing and called her to the hotel.
— Delhi Police officials, quoting the accused's alleged statement during interrogationThe Accused and the Victim
Abhishek Tiwari, 24, is a resident of West Babarpur, Shahdara, East Delhi. He was enrolled in a B.Com programme at Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL) and simultaneously worked as an accountant at a shop in Chandni Chowk.
The victim, a 25-year-old woman, lived with her parents, grandmother, and younger sister in the Maujpur area of Northeast Delhi. She worked as an accountant at a private firm in Chandni Chowk — the same neighbourhood where the two had reportedly crossed paths.
According to investigators, the pair had known each other for approximately two years, introduced through a common friend. Over time they developed a close relationship. Tensions arose when the woman began pressing Tiwari to commit to marriage — a demand he allegedly resisted, leading to repeated and escalating arguments.
Forensic Investigation
Following the discovery of the body, the hotel room was immediately sealed as a crime scene. Senior officers, a crime team, and specialists from the Forensic Science Laboratory were summoned to conduct a full examination.
Biological Samples
Blood from bedding and clothing; biological material from victim sent for DNA analysis.
Fingerprint & Trace
Latent prints lifted from room surfaces; trace evidence gathered to link accused to scene.
CCTV Footage
Hotel cameras reviewed to verify check-in time, the couple's entry, and the accused's exit.
Digital Records
Call detail records and phone location data used to trace and apprehend the accused.
Hotel Registers
Check-in documents confirmed Tiwari as the man who accompanied the victim.
Post-Mortem
Autopsy conducted to confirm cause and time of death and verify alleged strangulation.
Forensic analysis is expected to confirm strangulation as cause of death, establish the time of death relative to the accused's movements, and link DNA evidence between the two — all critical to the prosecution in court.
Police Investigation & Legal Action
Officers from the North District of Delhi Police moved swiftly. Investigators cross-referenced hotel registration documents, CCTV footage, and call detail records with phone location data to identify the suspect.
Though Tiwari initially attempted to evade authorities after fleeing the hotel, he was eventually tracked down and arrested. A murder case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigators are examining communication records between the victim and accused in the days preceding the crime to establish premeditation. Police have indicated that additional charges may follow depending on the final forensic and post-mortem findings.

Significance of the Case
This case underscores the increasingly critical role of forensic science and digital evidence in solving violent crimes in urban India. From CCTV reconstruction to DNA profiling and mobile location tracking, modern investigative tools enabled Delhi Police to identify and apprehend a suspect within days.
The case also raises broader questions about relationship disputes and their escalation to lethal violence — a pattern investigators say they encounter with troubling frequency. Authorities have urged citizens to seek mediation or legal channels when personal conflicts intensify.
