UP Teen Murders Grandmother Over School Fees, Sleeps Beside Corpse!

A 14-year-old boy slept with his grandmother’s corpse at night and went to school the next day as if everything was normal and nothing happened.

Background

A 14-year-old boy, a student in class eight at a private school, lived with his grandmother in the Malihabad area of Lucknow. His father, Rahul, had died 11 years ago, and his grandmother, Vidyavati Devi, a 70-year-old widow, fought against his mother, Prema, in a Lucknow court for his custody 11 years ago. Afterwards, his mother also died. His grandmother raised him on her own by running a small grocery shop to support them. In the house, he lived only with his grandmother.

The incident took place on the intervening night of May 21-22 in Muzasa village, Malihabad in Lucknow.

Case

On May 21-22, 2025, in Muzasa village, Malihabad in Lucknow, an incident occurred in which a 14-year-old boy strangled his 70-year-old grandmother to death after an argument over school fees on Wednesday night. The boy had recently left his grand-uncle Radhe Shyam's house and returned to live with his grandmother. Almost four days before the incident, he brought his belongings, including perfume and clothes, from his uncle’s house and told her he would stay with her from now on. On the day of the incident, he demanded Rs. 2600—Rs. 500 for branded clothes and perfume, and Rs. 2,100 for school fees—from his grandmother.

When Vidyavati told him she didn't have that much money, the boy lost control of his temper and, in a violent rage, strangled her with a pillow. When she stopped moving, he gently placed her on the bed and lay beside her corpse for the whole night to pretend everything was normal. The next morning, he sealed the door from the outside using a brick and told a neighbor, "Dadi is unwell. I'm going to school."

The entire incident was revealed when, on Thursday morning, Vidyavati’s daughter Mamata, who lives in Alambagh, failed to reach her mother by phone. This made her nervous and suspicious, so she asked a neighbor named Kalawati to check on her mother. Kalawati, along with another woman, went to Vidyavati’s house, where they found the door locked. As they walked in, they found Vidyavati's body on the bed, lying unconscious. They immediately informed her daughter. The daughter rushed there and took her mother to the hospital. In the hospital, the doctor declared her dead and called the police.

Police Action and Forensic Role

A case was registered at Malihabad police station on May 24, 2024. The police took possession of the body for post-mortem examination and gathered evidence with the help of a forensic team. After a while, the boy returned home after school that day and was soon taken into custody by the police.

During interrogation, he confessed: "I didn't know Dadi was poorer than Baba (Radheshyam). She refused money. When she pushed me, I got angry and choked her." He also admitted using a pillow to smother her to ensure she was dead.

Statement of Officials

  • DCP North Gopal Krishna Choudhary confirmed that as soon as the matter was reported, police responded promptly and are exploring all angles of the case.
  • Malihabad SHO Surendra Singh Bhati stated, “He admitted to the crime, saying he lost control after being denied money. He claimed his grandmother pushed him, which triggered the attack.”

Turning Point of Case

Meanwhile, the case has taken an unexpected direction, with Vidyavati’s daughters alleging that her brother-in-law, Radheshyam, orchestrated the murder to grab municipal land. They claim the minor was manipulated and used as a pawn in the conspiracy.

Conclusion

This case raises questions about juvenile crime, mental health, and possible manipulation by external influences. While the boy confessed to the act during police interrogation, citing rage over being denied money, the case has now taken an unexpected twist. Allegations by Vidyavati’s daughters suggest that the murder may have been orchestrated by her brother-in-law, Radheshyam, with the motive of seizing municipal land—using the boy as an unwitting instrument.

As the investigation deepens, police and forensic teams continue to gather evidence to uncover the full truth behind this disturbing incident. The case underscores the urgent need for both legal clarity and psychological support in dealing with juvenile offenders involved in grave crimes.
