Evidentia 3.0: DBUU Organises Two-Day National Workshop on 3D Facial Reconstruction and Forensic Innovations

Dehradun, Uttarakhand: The Department of Forensic Science, School of Allied Sciences, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University (DBUU) successfully hosted its flagship event Evidentia 3.0, a two-day national workshop on 3D Facial Reconstruction and Forensic Identification Techniques, in collaboration with Hawk Eye Forensic and Think साक्ष्य, with Budding Forensic Expert as the online media partner.

Themed “Where Science Meets Identity – Bringing Unknown Faces to Life”, the workshop brought together eminent forensic experts, academicians, and practitioners from across the country, providing students with a unique opportunity to learn cutting-edge forensic methods through interactive lectures, workshops, and competitions.


Day 1: Expert Insights and Forensic Competitions

The inaugural day commenced with registration and kit distribution, followed by the arrival of distinguished dignitaries including:

The formal inauguration began with the Lamp Lighting Ceremony, Welcome Dance, and a series of encouraging addresses by the university leadership, emphasizing the importance of forensic science in bridging gaps between law and justice.

Following a networking Hi-Tea, the academic sessions began with keynote lectures:

  • Mr. Abhishek Vashisth, renowned Forensic Document, Fingerprint, and Handwriting Expert, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on “Detection of Forgeries Related to Handwriting”, covering non-destructive methods such as Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), traced forgeries, and photocopied forgeries. His lecture highlighted the growing relevance of forensic document examination in financial and legal investigations.
  • Dr. A.K. Jaiswal, Senior Scientist at AIIMS, New Delhi, and a veteran with over 30 years of expertise in forensic toxicology, delivered an insightful lecture on “Analysis of Chemical/Poison from Biological Material”. Drawing from his experience in high-profile cases such as the Sushant Singh Rajput investigation and the Asthana PF fraud case, Dr. Jaiswal demonstrated how toxicological screenings play a crucial role in criminal justice.

The afternoon sessions brought excitement with interactive competitions:

  • Detective of the Year 2.0: A team-based forensic challenge involving case analysis, puzzles, and evidence evaluation. Winners received cash prizes of ₹2100 and ₹1100, encouraging analytical thinking and teamwork.
  • Forensic Bingo: A knowledge-driven yet fun activity where participants identified forensic terms on bingo sheets. Winners were felicitated with certificates.


Day 2: Hands-On Workshops and Digital Forensics

The second day focused on practical learning through workshops and technical sessions by leading forensic experts:

  • Dr. Aman Chowdhry, Professor & Incharge at Jamia Millia Islamia and internationally trained forensic odontologist, inaugurated the day with his keynote lecture on 3D Facial Reconstruction. He shared global case studies and techniques from his experience in craniofacial identification and forensic odontology, inspiring participants to explore interdisciplinary approaches in forensic sciences.
  • Dr. Arjun Kundu, Senior Resident at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, New Delhi, and specialist in forensic odontology, conducted a hands-on workshop on 3D Facial Reconstruction. Participants gained practical exposure to digital techniques using 3D scanning and printing for reconstructing human faces from skeletal remains. His session also touched upon age progression studies, humanitarian forensics, and disaster victim identification.
  • Mobile Forensics Workshop by Mr. Ashish Kuntal, Founder & CEO of Hawk Eye Forensic, Noida, provided participants with valuable insights into mobile data recovery, cybersecurity, and live tool demonstrations. The session highlighted the role of mobile forensics in criminal investigations and cybercrime prevention. Certificates were distributed to participants, marking their successful completion of the training.

The academic rigor was followed by CRIMETOONIST 2.0, a creative poster presentation competition blending science with art. Students showcased posters on forensic dermatoglyphics, questioned documents, forensic physics, toxicology, and medicine, merging scientific precision with innovative visuals.

The event concluded with the Prize Distribution and Valedictory Ceremony, where dignitaries congratulated the participants and emphasized the significance of forensic science in modern-day criminal investigations. The program closed with a Hi-Tea, marking the successful culmination of Evidentia 3.0.
