Father Opens Fire on Daughter and Friend in Azamgarh Restaurant
In a shocking incident that has left the district stunned, a man opened fire on his own daughter and her male friend inside a family restaurant in Azamgarh’s Devgaon Kotwali area on Friday afternoon. Both victims sustained critical injuries and have been referred to Varanasi for advanced medical treatment.
The Incident
The incident took place at the New Welcome Family Restaurant located on the bypass road. According to reports, Akshara Singh, a resident of Pakdi Khurd village, had gone to the restaurant with her acquaintance Aditya Singh from Masirpur village. The two were seated near the counter and were seen conversing, while Akshara’s mother was also present.
At around the same time, Akshara’s father unexpectedly arrived at the restaurant. On spotting his daughter with Aditya, he allegedly became furious and began arguing with her. The heated exchange soon escalated into physical assault, and in a fit of rage, the father pulled out his licensed revolver and fired at both Akshara and Aditya.
Immediate Aftermath
The gunfire caused chaos among customers and staff, many of whom rushed out of the restaurant in panic. Eyewitnesses said people ran for cover as soon as the shots were fired.
Locals immediately rushed the injured to Lalganj Joint District Hospital, where doctors declared their condition critical. For better treatment, both victims were referred to a higher medical center in Varanasi.
Police Response
As soon as the information reached authorities, SP City Madhuban Kumar Singh along with Devgaon Kotwali police arrived at the scene. Police officials inspected the restaurant and collected forensic evidence. The accused father was taken into custody on the spot and is currently being interrogated.
Speaking to the media, SP City confirmed the sequence of events:
“The girl was sitting in the restaurant with her mother and a male friend when her father arrived. An argument broke out, after which he fired from his licensed revolver. Both the girl and the boy were seriously injured and have been referred to Varanasi. Legal action is being initiated against the accused.”
Widespread Shock and Fear
The shooting has created panic in the locality and sparked widespread outrage. Residents expressed disbelief over the fact that a father, in anger, would go to the extent of shooting his own daughter.
Police have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that strict legal action will be taken against the accused. Meanwhile, the condition of both victims remains critical.
