Top Forensic Science Colleges in India 2026
Rankings, Fees & Admission
Government colleges prioritised · NFSU-affiliated colleges listed · Every fact verified from official sources.
India's forensic ecosystem is undergoing a historic transformation. New criminal laws mandate forensic investigation for all offences carrying 7+ years imprisonment. The government approved ₹2,254 crore under NFIES to build labs and campuses across all states. Two Institutions of National Importance under MHA — NFSU and RRU — anchor India's forensic education system. This guide prioritises government colleges, then lists NFSU-affiliated colleges, and finally suggests private options only for students unable to secure a government seat. Every fact, fee, and figure is verified from official sources.

Students apply through the NFSU portal (nfsu.ac.in) and can attend centralised counselling to secure seats at these colleges. NFSU affiliation ensures curriculum standardisation, quality labs, and a degree backed by the Institution of National Importance. These are a strong second choice if NFSU direct campus seats are not available. Deadline: June 10, 2026.

When Should You Consider a Private College?
Private colleges should be considered only if you have been unable to secure a seat at a government institution (NFSU, RRU, BHU, Panjab University, IFS Mumbai, DHSGSU, UPSIFS) or an NFSU-affiliated college. Government colleges offer nationally recognised degrees at far lower cost, better government job placement, and superior academic credibility in forensic science careers.
If you do choose a private college: verify NAAC grade on ugc.ac.in, check NIRF rank at nirfindia.org, and confirm the fee structure on the official college website — not third-party aggregators. Private fees typically rise ~5% annually.
Amity University (Noida / Gurgaon / Jaipur / Mohali)

How to Choose the Right College — Key Points
1. Try Government Seats First — Always
NFSU and RRU are both Institutions of National Importance under MHA — India's best forensic universities at government-level fees. BHU at ~₹1.68L and Panjab University at ~₹27,830 are exceptional value. Government degrees carry stronger weight in FSL/CFSL recruitment.
2. NFAT Is Gone — Use the Right Exam for Your Target
For NFSU → CUET-UG/PG (BSc/MSc) or JEE Main (BTech). For RRU → RCET (June 7, 2026) or JEE/GATE. For BHU → CUET-PG. For Panjab University → PU CET (PG). Do not waste time preparing for NFAT.
3. RRU Is Not Just a Backup — It Is Equally Prestigious
RRU is an Institution of National Importance under MHA, the same as NFSU. Its MSc Forensic Science at ₹2.5L total is excellent value. The RCET exam is less competitive than CUET and JEE, making RRU more accessible while maintaining national-level prestige. Apply before May 31, 2026.
4. AMU Does Not Offer Forensic Science
Multiple platforms incorrectly list AMU as offering BSc/MSc Forensic Science. AMU offers M.Sc. Cyber Security & Digital Forensics (Computer Science department, 25 seats, departmental test) and M.D. Forensic Medicine (MBBS holders only). These are completely different programmes.
