“No Child Should Suffer Like Me”: Delhi Teen’s Suicide Note Sparks Serious Allegations Against Teachers
A 16-year-old Class 10 student from a private school in central Delhi died by suicide on Tuesday afternoon after jumping from the platform of the Rajendra Place Metro Station. The incident has triggered widespread shock and outrage, especially after authorities recovered a suicide note in which the teenager accused several teachers and the school principal of mentally harassing him.
Police said the boy reached the metro station around 2:34 pm before leaping from the platform. He was immediately rushed to BLK Super Speciality Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Suicide note reveals deep anguish
In a handwritten note found in his bag, the student apologised to his mother, writing:
The teen also expressed a desire for his organs to be donated “if they are still usable,” according to police sources.
The suicide note named three teachers as well as the school principal, alleging long-term mental harassment. The boy wrote that he wanted strict action so that “no child should suffer like I did.”
Family alleges continuous harassment
The boy’s father stated that his son had been distressed for months, often complaining about being scolded, humiliated, or mocked by teachers over minor issues.
A particularly painful incident happened during a drama class, where the boy allegedly slipped and fell. According to the father, instead of helping him, a teacher mocked him for “overacting” while classmates laughed, and the principal stood by without intervening.
Some classmates reportedly told the family that a teacher had threatened to issue a Transfer Certificate (TC) and had even pushed the boy during an argument.
The family refrained from filing a formal complaint earlier because the boy’s internal board-assessment marks (20 marks) depended on the school, and they did not want his academic future jeopardized.
Police register abetment to suicide case
The father has filed an FIR naming the teachers and the school principal. Delhi Police registered a case of abetment to suicide on Wednesday and have begun a comprehensive investigation.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the metro station and school premises, analysing the boy’s digital activity, and interviewing students, teachers, and family members.
Growing concerns about student mental health
The tragic incident adds to rising concerns about student suicides in India. Experts have long warned of increasing academic pressure, unaddressed bullying, and inconsistent mental-health support in schools, particularly in private institutions that prioritise performance over emotional well-being.
This case underscores a need for systematic reforms in how schools address student grievances, psychological safety, and teacher accountability.
Immediate reforms needed
Education experts and parents are calling for urgent steps, including:
- Mandatory mental-health counselling in all schools
- Strong disciplinary action for teacher misconduct
- Anonymous reporting channels for students
- Regular psychological well-being assessments
- Teacher training in empathy, behaviour management, and student engagement
What happens next?
The post-mortem report is awaited. Police say all allegations mentioned in the suicide note will be examined thoroughly. If proven, the named staff members could face criminal charges and departmental action.
This tragedy may push Delhi’s education authorities toward stronger regulations on student protection and mental-health support within schools.
